This was one of the first images I came across detailing the lines in the hand. It began my thinking about the dividing or connectivity of a society through the structure of the lines in a hand and what each line could mean to people around the island. Would some arragements be more lucrative or sort after due to the configuration of the island.

The hand is one of the most complex and beautiful pieces of natural engineering  in the human body. It gives us a powerful grip but also allows us to manipulate small objects with great precision. This versatility sets us apart from every other creature on the planet.

This book was very helpful in understanding the structure of the hand so that I could use it to develop my ideas through palmistry. As I understood more about the structure of the hand I started to think how it could influence the shape of the land.

After understanding the shape of the hand I wanted to understand the lines that could guide the construction of how the society could function. How could these lines guide a civilization and control the inputs and outputs of not only the island but the idividuals themselves.

This was the start of considering and designing what an island that followed the strict rules of palmistry would look like and if one was to take the shape of the island as a literal palm, extracting lines within the hand as its roads and rivers.

This was helpful beacuse it gave me influence to understand the lines within the hands and how that would translate onto a society to interact with. How would they be guided through the shape of the land and where would this designate people through the land to best fit with the communication and travel.

Rubbing charcoal on our hands as a group helped us to grasp a deeper and clearer understanding of how the lines form on the hand and how they could be connected to be paths for a civilization.,
This was a hand shaped I dyed into my head, it was quite spontaneous but I feel it helped me feel more connected with the project and I could assume the characteristics of a citizen on the island.
